Family learning to employment

Family learning programmes lead to a rich range of outcomes for participants, including providing a key stepping stone into employment.

They build on strengths within the family, celebrate diversity and develop new skills for both adults and children.

This page celebrates the achievements of learners on family learning programmes, and will inspire learners, tutors, managers and policy-makers alike.

The first two papers are available now:

PDF iconThe Family learning to employment activity sheet gives tutors and learners inspiring stories, a game and discussion ideas, in one downloadable leaflet.  PDF help

Tpoic Paper CoverPDF icon The Family learning to employment topic paper will be especially useful for those new to family learning, for example extended services and children’s services. It examines how family learning programmes can raise aspirations in relation to employment options.

These papers have been produced as part of NIACE’s ESF-funded Sign Up Now campaign.

On Friday 28 September, the above materials were launched in a celebration event which brought together learners, practitioners and policy makers. As we move into Family Learning Week* (6-14 October), we will be sharing stories, photos and interviews from this event.

Sign Up Now – Supported by the European Social Fund

The European Social Fund (ESF) is a European Union initiative that supports activities to promote employment opportunities for all.

The ESF helps people who need additional support to enter jobs, improve their skills and develop their potential at work. Many of the people benefiting from ESF are at a disadvantage in the labour market because they lack basic skills and qualifications. ESF enables them to learn new skills and get qualified. Since 2000, over 4 million people in England have benefited.

For more information on the European Social Fund please visit the website at www.esf.gov.uk.

The Sign Up Now and Adult Learners’ Week campaigns, co-ordinated by NIACE, are part-funded by the ESF. This webpage aims to promote family learning as a route into learning news skills and employment for those currently disadvantaged in the labour market.
