East Midlands CPA (Care Programme Approach) Social Inclusion Project

Project Status: Current

The East Midlands CPA (Care Programme Approach) Social Inclusion Project is a joint NIACE, CSIP and LSC project. It involves working with health and education services to improve services for people with serious and enduring mental health difficulties (those who are on enhanced CPAs) in the East Midlands, according to requirements set out in the 2004 Social Exclusion Unit report, Mental Health and Social Exclusion.

The aims of the CPA Project are to:

bulletEstablish baseline data regarding the education levels of service users on enhanced CPAs.
bulletExplore the role of learning and skills in current CPA processes.
bulletWork with mental health services and education services to promote education within the CPA process, and to improve access to learning and skills for people with mental health difficulties.

Listen to service users to find out about their views and experiences of education.

We are working with 15 Mental Health teams across the East Midlands. We have carried out a first round of data collection and are working with health and education services to raise the profile of learning and skills for people on enhanced CPAs. In early 2008 we will carry out a second round of data collection and research service users’ experiences of participating in learning. We plan to produce a final report in Spring/Sumer 2008.
