Project History

Building on NIACE's work on Developing Embedded Basic Skills (DEBS) and NRDC's work on case studies this project involves a study of embedding/integrating LLN in vocational programmes.

 

Aims

To compare embedded and non-embedded approaches to delivering LLN and vocational programmes in FE, to determine whether outcomes are more or less beneficial to learners, their learning experiences and achievements.

 

Objectives

To gather data:

bulletto complete student questionnaires;
bulletto interview learners, teachers and programme managers;
bulletto examine MIS data;
bulletto observe learning where possible;
bulletto analyse the data and report on qualitative and quantitative outcomes and inform judgements about effectiveness of embedded/non-embedded approaches.

Research is limited to 19 FE colleges and covers curriculum areas of engineering, health and social care, hair and beauty, construction and business administration.
